CURRENT MOOD: OVERALL

Thursdays in my Instagram feed are filled with TBTs reminiscent of childhood fun, vacation glamour, and beautiful memories. During this time of year, I've got summer fashion on the brain and the only throwbacks my mind is wandering towards (Thursday or any day of the week, let's be honest!) showcase my yearning for short shorts, gladiator sandals, and summer smiles. Enter: the look, pictured here.

To start, there's something ridiculously nostalgic of youth when sporting a pair of denim overall shorts - a cross between teenage angst (outgrown, of course!) and adult fashion experimentation at play. This pair of Lovers & Friends overalls are one of my best summer staples. Speaking for themselves, this piece of clothing needs not many additions to make a complete look. The overalls are just that.good.

I chose to pair the shorts with a long sleeve MinkPink striped top underneath. The longer sleeves allow me to transition the look from a day of outdoor shopping or play time with my boys to a night time rooftop bbq or outdoor dinner, with absolutely no changing time required. And, the black stripes open the doors to a darker footwear and accessory palette, again allowing for that seamless transition to night-time.

The Schutz black gladiator sandals are the perfect fun addition to this look. Gladiators seem to go through phases, but I'm glad they came back for Summer '15 since I've always been a fan! They're very Mediterranean in style, and wearing a pair always makes me think of summers growing up! Plus, these Schutz are so comfortable, I can wear them all day every day and be one happy mama. They also hit my leg in just the right spot - an important thing to note when looking for ankle-wrapping sandals. Everyone's feet and legs are different, so it's best to try on a few pairs before choosing the most flattering look!

No look of mine is really complete without a pair of sunnies and a good bag. My second pair of new sample sale Illesteva shades (similar here) are my first like its kind - round shaped, metal-rimmed frames that give a head-nod to '70s cool. Add in my new white Kate Spade envelope crossbody, which matches neatly with the white background shade of my top, and the look is complete. Lots of neutrals, lots of old-school charm, and a whole lot of fun with this one!
